How often do I eat fast foods? I'm really not a fan of fast food, but when I get a craving, I just listen to it and go to either one of the fast food restaurants and shops and get myself a nice burger and fries.
Aiste / Lithuania
Not very often. I don't like going to fast food restaurants because I really don't have a very strong digestion system so therefore if I go to eat fast food, I don't feel very good, so I prefer the food that is better quality than fast food.
George / United States
Uh, fast food. Fast food. Since college probably only once a month or less. Again, back in high school it used to be maybe three times a week, but where I live now I can't find a lot of fast food restaurants, so I think that's the reason why I don't eat it so much now.
Mike / Singapore
Fast food. One too many, because the bus stop where I take the bus to school and in front of the bus stop there is a burger joint, so it's very convenient for me to just grab my lunch from there and sometimes when I'm on my way back home. I'll also get my dinner, but of course it's not healthy and, but then again because it's so convenient, so that't the hard thing. But I'm thinking of cutting down on fast food.
Chrystal / United States
Fast food? Every time I crave for it. There is this really great hamburger joint like right outside my house and I just can't stop eating it. I have to go there maybe at least once a week just to grab those burgers.
Diego / Mexico
I eat fast food, I think, only once a week, and it's usually when I don't have time to cook because I'm a very big fan of cooking, so if I eat fast food it'll be on the weekends when it's really late and I don't want to cook.
When I get a craving, I just listen to it.
When you get a craving, that means you want to consume something very strongly. Notice the following:
- I often get a craving for coffee in the afternoon.
- For some reason, I have a craving for pickles right now.
I don't have a very strong digestion system.
You digestive system is your stomach and intestines. It handles the food you eat. Notice the following:
- He has a problem with his digestive system.
- Tea is good for the digestive system.
In front of the bus stop there is a burger joint.
A joint is a casual way to say fast food shop. Notice the following:
- Let's go to that pizza joint across the street.
- There is a great taco joint by my house.
I'm thinking of cutting down on fast food.
When we cut down on something, that means we use it less. Notice the following:
- You should cut down on video games.
- I am trying to cut down on sugar.
I'm a very big fan of cooking,
When we like something a lot, we say we are a big fan of it. Notice the following:
- I am not a big fan of Cajun food.
- I am a big fan of traditional cooking.
my culture were brought up to think that that's really bad.
In this case, "brought up" means to be raised from childhood.
- I was brought up to believe it is impolite to eat with your elbows on the table.
- Many boys are brought up to believe they should hide their feelings.
If you do anything wrong then it's on your record.
"Record" in this case means a criminal history or some other official record of your behaviour.
- If you are late for work more than 3 times, it will be noted on your record with the Personnel section.
- Many countries will not issue a visa if you have a criminal conviction on your record.
The policeman asked me to pull over.
In this case, "pulling over" is an action taken when you are driving a car and it means
to move your car to the side of the road and stop.
- Thanks for giving me a lift home. You can pull over at this corner and let me off.
- In Japan, you should pull over to the left and wait if you hear an ambulance coming.
The policeman in Dubai was very straight and honest.
When we are talking about people, "straight" means to be honest and not evasive nor to hide
anything.
- It is important to have people who are straight working in positions of authority, so that their power is not abused.
- When my sister had an accident, my father was completely straight with me about her condition and didn't try to protect me from the difficult truth.
He turned me down, it is really bad in the Arab culture.
To be "turned down" is to be denied something.
- I asked Jack if he would go out for coffee with me, but he turned me down. I was so disappointed.
- When I asked my mum if I could get a motor bike, she turned me down because it was too dangerous.
