English Listening Activities on ELLLO
OK, I'm going to talk a little about the best way to use ELLLO. Hello, my name is Todd Beuckens and I am the creator of ELLLO and I'm an English teacher in Japan and I made ELLLO for students around the world to improve their English and ELLLo has many different types of activities and each has a different purpose to help you with your English, so I will explain each one.
The first thing what we have every week are the main interviews, and with the interviews students can basically listen to two people, talking about any topic and this is good practice just for general English, to improve your overall English and to hear lots of different phrases and words used in different situations and to see how people talk to each other.
OK, also on the site we have Mixer. Now Mixer is made so students can listen to many people talk about the exact same topic, and with mixer you don't have to worry about what the people are talking about because you can see the question on the top of the page and everybody in the picture answers the same question. This is a good activity to see variety of English and see how people respond and answer different questions.
OK, and then we also have the News Center. Now the News Center is mainly made for test taking and acedemic English. News Center was created so students can hear more academic words and they can hear somebody talk about something specific, so if you have to take a test, like TOEFL or IELTS, or you want to prepare to study at University, News Center is made for you.
OK, then also we have the songs page. The songs page is probably the best page to improve your English because it does everything. You can learn grammar by looking at the lyrics, and you can improve your pronunciation as you listen to how the the song is sung by the musicians. Also, you can learn idioms and slang, so the song page is really good because you can listen to the words and read the lyrics as the song plays.
OK, and then lastly we have the listening games section. The listening games section is just a page of fun activities. It's not serious. All you have to do is listen for the topic, listen for what is being discussed and then click on the correct picture, so it's not too serious. Again, all you have to do is listen and click on the picture you hear being discussed. It should be fun, and I hope you enjoy it.
