News #4 Attacked
Good evening, and welcome to the ten o'clock news.
A man has been stabbed outside Sunny Jim's pub in the city centre. The attack happened at one pm yesterday as the man, aged 34, was out walking with his family. Fortunately he was not fatally injured and he is in a stable condition in hospital. Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Under a new government initiative smoking is to be banned in all restaurants in the city starting this week. The ban excludes pubs which do not serve food. If the ban is successful, it is expected that local village eateries will also follow suit.
There has been a flood on the west side of the city as the River Trent has burst its banks. Several homes have been damaged as a result and some residents have been temporarily moved in to sheltered accommodation. Artificial flood banks are now being put into place, although it is expected to be a number of weeks before this problem is fully resolved.
A sponsored walk in aid of a local childrens' home is to take place this Sunday at 10am. The walk, organised by an ex-resident of the home is expected to attract within the region of 1300 walkers. Participants can choose to walk either 3 miles or 12. For more information please see the website.
And now, great news for you shopaholics out there! The post-spring sales begin tomorrow, with prices of clothes and other merchandise expected to be between thirty and fifty percent lower than usual. Local department stores are offering up to seventy five percent off last season's stock, so hurry along for a real bargain!
And now for the weather: Today will be rainy again I'm afraid! The rain is expected to last another week or so, although Sunday should be brighter in the morning. Still, it's good for you gardeners! Top temperatures will be 15 degrees.
Well, that's all for today from the ten o'clock news team. Thank you for watching. Have fun getting those bargains, and I might see you there!
