Hi, my name's Eulices, and I'm from Costa Rica. My question is, did you learn a language by watching movies?
Yes. I actually learned a lot of what I know of English by watching movies and, of course, also listening to music. And actually, a lot of it came from also video games. Movies are a good source of practice for hearing, but the trick with new languages is that you have to practice.
So even though watching a lot of movies will help you understand a lot of dialects and it will expose you to different levels of English depending on which movies you're looking, once you start speaking, you may notice a difference between the level of English that you can talk and the one that you think you can talk.
So even though you may have a lot of practice listening to different types of media, one recommendation that always comes to mind is that that's not enough. So, if you want to learn the language, you're going to have to practice.
