Meaning: Happening or taking place.

Examples:

  1. There’s a lot going on in the city today.
  2. What’s going on in that room?

lead to

Meaning: To cause something to happen.

Examples:

  1. Too much stress can lead to health problems.
  2. This road will lead to the beach.

anticipating

Meaning: Expecting something to happen.

Examples:

  1. She was anticipating his arrival with excitement.
  2. We are anticipating a busy holiday season.

in reality

Meaning: In truth; actually.

Examples:

  1. It looks easy, but in reality, it’s very hard.
  2. In reality, they are good friends.

spooky

Meaning: Strange and scary.

Examples:

  1. The old house looked spooky at night.
  2. We heard a spooky sound from the attic.

intensify

Meaning: To make stronger or more extreme.

Examples:

  1. The rain began to intensify during the night.
  2. The smell of flowers intensified in the garden.

shock

Meaning: A sudden and strong surprise or fear.

Examples:

  1. Her words came as a shock to everyone.
  2. The news of his death was a great shock.

leave the audience hanging

Meaning: To end a story without giving an answer or conclusion.

Examples:

  1. The series ended and left the audience hanging.
  2. Don’t leave the audience hanging—finish the story!
