Have you ever done multiple rounds of job interviews?

Lesson Activities

Hi, I am Olivia. I'm from Washington D.C. And my question is, have you ever done multiple rounds of interviews for a job?

For a traditional job, no. That's typically like working retail or working as a barista behind the coffee counter. They're pretty simple jobs. They just need someone who's confident and has good communication skills. So I kind of do the one interview and we're fine.

But for an acting job, yes. And by interviews I might mean like a recall or a callback. So normally you submit your first self-tape, if they like you and they think you're a good fit for the role, they'll get back to you. And they'll either ask you to come in person, or they'll ask you to do a tape again with more scenes, or they'll give you critique. And then you send that in, or you attend the second round of auditions, and then sometimes they’ll ask you to come back again depending on how big the project is.

So there's been a few projects where I've gone back, I've gotten the role after two tries. There's a few projects where I've gone back three times. One of those I did get it and one of those I didn't get it. And it's good fun, it's good practice, but it is a bit annoying when you go for three or four rounds and then you don't end up getting it because you do get your hopes up. But it does just kind of depend on the job.
