Hello. My name is Jael. I'm from Dominican Republic, and my question is what languages are spoken in your area?
In Dominican Republic the official language is Spanish, but we also learn how to speak English. Well, not everybody, but especially when you are finishing school or college, you learn how to speak English because when you are looking for a job, it's a plus if you know how to speak English. We also are a touristic country so when you go to the hotels you are going to find people who can speak English, French, Italian, German, languages like that, especially in the touristic zones. In the the stores, the supermarkets, the hotels, the parks. You can find people who can speak those languages.
Also, we have a very large community of Hatians because we share the island with Haiti so you can find a lot of people who can speak Creole. Here even Dominicans learn how to speak Creole so they can speak with the Haitians when they come to the country.
