Welcome to the ELLLO Teacher Studio

Hi, my name is Todd, and I'm the creator of ELLLO and the ELLLO Teacher Studio. I'm also an English instructor in Japan, where I teach at a university. I've been teaching for about 30 years, and one of my biggest interests has always been instructional design. I have a master's degree in Learning, Design and Technology from San Diego State University, and I love finding new and practical ways to teach, both in the classroom and online.

I created the ELLLO Teacher Studio because I have a lot of materials and ideas that I want to share with other teachers. But I also wanted to create a community where teachers can share what they know, show other teachers what they're doing, and learn from each other.

There are four main things you can get from the Teacher Studio:

Ready-made lessons. Download activities and exercise files or make copies of materials that you can use with your students right away.
Step-by-step tutorials. Learn how to create the activities yourself with videos that walk you through the process and explain the teaching ideas behind them.
Templates. Start with a ready-made template instead of building everything from scratch, and then adapt it to create your own lessons and materials.
A teacher community. Share ideas and materials with other teachers, participate in workshops and meetups, and see what teachers around the world are doing in their classes.

One thing that's especially important to me is explaining the pedagogy behind the activities. There are lots of teaching materials online, but sometimes they are little more than time fillers. In the Teacher Studio, we'll look at why an activity is designed a certain way, what students are actually doing, and how you can make the activity more effective.

We'll also have regular workshops and meetups where we can share ideas and explore new approaches to teaching. I'll regularly bring in something new to demonstrate, but I also want teachers in the community to share their own ideas and activities. The goal is for all of us to learn from each other.

Most importantly, I want the Teacher Studio to help with one of the biggest problems teachers face: time. That means reducing preparation time before class, making the time we have with students more meaningful, and finding ways to streamline things like assessment and homework after class. We'll also explore bigger teaching ideas, such as inductive and deductive instruction, and how we can create more activities where students learn by doing.
