This approach uses Canva to build a complete listening worksheet workflow, not just a single activity. Design the answer key first, use it as your speaking prompt to record the audio, then duplicate the page and strip out the answers to create the student version — all from one reusable template.

Why use this tool?

Building the answer key before recording anything makes the whole process faster and more reliable: you already know exactly what you're going to say, so the recording session goes quickly and stays accurate to the worksheet. Canva's duplicate page function then makes creating the student copy nearly instant — copy the finished answer key page and simply remove the answers.

Once you've built a template once — with the layout, word/image spots, and QR code placement already worked out — reusing it for a new topic is fast. Just unlock it, swap in new words and images, update the audio and its QR code, and you have a brand-new listening activity ready to go. The same structure works for virtually any vocabulary set: sports, subjects, clothing, places around town, animals, food, and so on.

How to use it

1. Design the answer key first. Lay out your worksheet with words, matching images, and your own answers filled in (for example, marking whether you like or dislike each item).
2. Use the answer key as your recording prompt. Record audio narrating the answer key content in Audacity, so the spoken content matches the worksheet exactly.
3. Host the audio and generate a QR code. Upload the finished audio and create a QR code linking to it (using a tool like Bitly), then place the QR code on the worksheet.
4. Duplicate the page for a student copy. Copy the finished answer key page, then remove the filled-in answers to create the blank version students will complete.
5. Save the layout as a reusable template. Keep this structure as your master template for future activities.
6. Reuse the template for new topics. To make a new activity, unlock the template, swap in new vocabulary and images, update the directions if needed, record new audio, generate a new QR code, and you have a complete new worksheet.

Once the template is built, the full cycle — new topic, new audio, new QR code — can be repeated quickly, making it realistic to build out a large library of listening activities across many different vocabulary sets.
