Module 5: Video Lessons

Welcome to Module 5: Video Lessons. In this module, we're going to look at different tools you can use to create, edit, organize, and share video content with your students. Even if you mainly teach live classes, video can be a great way to give students extra material to watch outside of class.

We'll start with Unsplash, which is a great place to find images. You can use these images for thumbnails, presentations, audio slideshows, or as the visual for a simple video lesson. Then we'll look at VEED, which is probably the main video-editing tool in this module. You can add captions, create dynamic captions, add effects, and change the format of your videos for platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts.

Here are the main tools we'll look at:

1. Unsplash. Find high-quality images for thumbnails, slideshows, and video lessons.
2. VEED. Edit videos, add captions and effects, and create different video formats for different platforms.
3. Wakelet. Create a simple webpage where you can organize videos, links, and other activities in one place for your students.
4. X. Share and promote your teaching content so other teachers and learners can discover what you're creating.
5. YouTube. Upload, organize, host, and share your video lessons online for free.
6. Zoom. Record yourself, create screencasts, record conversations and interviews, or teach live classes.

There are lots of different ways to use video as a teacher. You might create a short explanation for students to watch before class, record a conversation with another speaker, make a screencast showing students how to do something, or turn an audio lesson into a captioned video. Once you have created the video, you can host it online and reuse it again and again.

I think video is going to become increasingly important in education. Even if you're teaching face-to-face, it makes sense to have video content that students can use outside of class. The good news is that you don't need an expensive studio or complicated software. The tools in this module give you some simple ways to get started.
