Why use this tool?

This is especially useful in the moment: if you're covering a grammar point and want students to get a bit more hands-on practice right away, many online lesson pages (like Ello's grammar lessons) include a puzzle activity students can complete on their own phones. Rather than sending a link or writing a URL on the board, a QR code lets students access the activity instantly by scanning.

It also works for pair or individual practice — students can work together to reconstruct a jumbled conversation, then play the audio to check their answer. And because it's built into Chrome, there's no separate account or tool needed: just right-click and go.

How to use it

1. Open the activity page in Chrome. Navigate to the lesson or puzzle you want students to access — for example, a grammar point page with an interactive puzzle tab.
2. Right-click the page. Select "Create QR code for this page" from the menu.
3. Display the QR code on your monitor. The code pops up immediately and can be shown on your classroom screen.
4. Have students scan it. Students point their phone camera at the code, tap to open the link, and are taken directly to the activity page.
5. Let students work through the activity. For a puzzle-based activity, students can work in pairs or individually, then play any accompanying audio to check their answer.
