How to Use Skool to Create an Online Class

Skool is a platform you can use to create an online class, course, or community. I'm currently using it for the ELLLO Teacher Studio, and in the future I also plan to use it to create a community for students on ELLLO.

What I really like about Skool is how easy it is to set everything up. You can create modules and then put individual lessons inside those modules, so students have one organized place to access all of your materials. It's also very easy for students to join and start using the community.

There are several useful features:

1. Create modules. Organize your course into sections and put individual lessons inside each module.
2. Build a community. Give students a place where they can interact with you and with each other.
3. Add a calendar. Let students know about upcoming classes, meetings, and other events.
4. Create levels. Organize content so students can work through different levels or stages.
5. Manage your lessons. Upload and organize your course materials so students can easily find what they need.
6. Offer memberships. You can create a free community for your students or experiment with paid membership options.

I should clarify one thing because this course is called the A to Z of Free Software: Skool itself isn't completely free. As I'm recording this in the fall of 2026, there is an inexpensive plan and a free trial, so you can try the platform before deciding whether you want to continue. Prices and trial offers can change, of course, so check the current options if you're interested.

For me, the biggest advantage is simplicity. It's easy to create the community, add lessons, organize everything, and get students started. If you work for a school or organization that wants one online place for lessons, events, and interaction, it could also be an option worth exploring.
